The City of La Crosse has received the prestigious Gold Award from the American Association of Webmasters (AAWM) for its website located at http://www.cityoflacrosse.org.
The AAWM states that the City’s website “boasts an intuitive navigation structure, eye-catching design, and next-generation functionality.”
Founded in 2002, the AAWM recognizes websites that promote high standards in development and positive contributions to the internet community. Through its awards program, the AAWM acknowledges the effort and dedication required to construct websites using an organization’s unique style, creativity, and content.
In December 2008, the City of La Crosse launched a re-designed website in an effort to improve communication with residents, businesses, and visitors. The new website features user-friendly navigation, feedback forms, frequently asked questions, City meetings calendar, area events calendar, and special sections for residents and visitors.
"The feedback we've received toward the new website has been very positive," said David Montealegre, Director of Information Services. "It's still a work in progress, but the improvements to the City's website have been dramatic. The design, programming, graphics work and maintenance are all done in house and by the Information Services Department staff."
More than 30,000 people visit the City of La Crosse website each month.
The City of La Crosse plans to add even more features in the future including online applications, Permits, integration with other websites, and improved bids and email subscription lists.
