Street Sweeping

Street Sweepers start to clean winter sand and debris from the streets as soon as weather permits in the spring. Generally, there are two sweepers working between the hours of 10:30PM - 6:30AM Monday through Friday.

During the day, there are two sweepers out cleaning the streets. The main arterial streets are swept first and then the residential streets are swept. The entire City of La Crosse is swept approximately once every two weeks. Due to night sweeping, many property owners are unaware that their local streets are frequently swept.

In the fall, sweeping is performed to clean up leaves and to prevent storm inlets and storm sewers from plugging. Implementation of alternate side parking during this season is a great assistance to the impacted departments. There are extra sweeper operators put on to keep up during this season.
