Recycling Collection
Recycling is required by Wisconsin State Statutes and is required not only for residents, but also of commercial and industrial businesses, retailers, health care, facilities, non-profit and tax exempt properties, restaurants, and virtually everyone that generates waste.

Residential recyclable collection is every other week. Place all recyclable items in the green recyclable container.

Recycling bins may be purchased for $8 each at the City Hall Public Works Office - 400 La Crosse St, 5th floor or at the Recycling Office at Marco Drive - Isle La Plume.

A Properly-Prepared Recyling Bin

Photo of Recycling BinWe have a "dual-stream" collection system. That means newspaper is separate from all other recyclables. You can mix cans, aluminum, and glass together in your bin. Place newspaper in a separate paper grocery bag or bundle it with cotton string, then place the bag or bundle in or next to the recycling bin.
How to Prepare Recyclables
Glass

Jars and bottles only! Remove metal rings and lids and rinse clean. No light bulbs, dishes, glassware, window glass, mirrors, or ceramics.
Empty food, paint, and aerosol cans only! Ends of cans can stay attached. Flattening of steel cans is appreciated. No chemicals, scrap metal, or vehicle parts. Steel Cans

Aluminum

Cans only! Rinse cans clean and drain liquid. Flattening is appreciated. No food plates, trays, or foil.
Shiny inserts are okay. Bundle with cotton string or place in a paper bag alongside or on top of your recycling bin. Keep papers as dry as possible! If rain/snow is predicted, please wait until your next recycling week to set out. No magazines, junk mail, or telephone books. Newspaper

Plastic

Remove lids (they are a different form of plastic than 1 PETE and 2 HDPE). Rinse and crush plastic containers. Crushing the plastics helps create more space within your recycling container. Read more about plastic recycling »
