History
Black River Beach started as an approval from the council committee to dredge the beach and fill it in with 130,000 cubic yards of dredge material in May 1946, which they later extended 30 feet north and 20 feet south. Just in time for summer, the beach was opened in June 1947. A bathhouse was installed to allow people to change and to use the restroom without leaving the beach in 1953. Later on, the beach was improved by adding more features. In 1977, there were 3,600 square feet of sod playground area, an underground sprinkler system and sidewalks added to the beach. All of the additions were donations from local firms and constructed by local residents who volunteered their time.
