The Department of Public Works is comprised of seven divisions: Engineering, Streets and Highways, Refuse and Recycling, Parking Utility, Wastewater Utility, and the Water Utility.

  • Engineering Department
    Responsible for the preparation of plans, specifications, estimates and approval for water mains and wells, storm and sanitary sewer systems, wastewater treatment plant improvements, street improvements, park improvements, street lighting, and miscellaneous public works projects, and for supervision of construction to completion.
  • Parking Utility
    Operates and maintains four parking ramps and four parking lots in downtown La Crosse for public parking. The utility also provides parking enforcement in the downtown area, and processes parking tickets issued throughout the city.
  • Refuse and Recycling
    Responsible for collection and disposal of refuse and recyclables for residents with four or less dwelling units per building in the City of La Crosse.
  • Streets and Highways
    Consists of two divisions that operate under the Public Works Office. These Divisions are in charge of all street maintenance and repairs.r
  • Stormwater Utility
    Operates and maintains 7 lifting stations and 116 miles of storm sewers.
  • Wastewater Utility
    Operates and maintains 28 lifting (pumping) stations, 182 miles of sanitary sewers.
  • Water Utility
    It is the responsibility of the Water Utility to operate and maintain all the grounds, buildings, and equipment of the Water Utility including 15 wells, one reservoir, approximately 214 miles of water main, and the former pumping station that is adjacent to Myrick Park.
