On January 7th, 2026, at approximately 11:20pm, La Crosse Police were notified that an individual had been shot. It was learned the individual and Anthony L. Stagman (10/25/1998) were together on this date when Mr. Stagman became intoxicated and unintentionally fired the weapon, injuring the individual causing non-life-threatening injuries. The individual and Mr. Stagman drove to Emplify Health by Gundersen La Crosse Hospital and prior to arriving Mr. Stagman got out of the vehicle. The individual expressed concern Mr. Stagman may still come to the hospital. With this knowledge, in collaboration with the La Crosse Police Department, Emplify Health by Gundersen placed the hospital on temporary lockdown status for the safety of all involved.
Officers were able to determine Mr. Stagman was at his residence and they began negotiations with him. At approximately 1:30am, Mr. Stagman exited his residence and was taken into custody. He was transported to the La Crosse County Jail and charged with Operating/Go/Armed with Firearm While Intoxicated, 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and Disorderly Conduct.
He is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
