We will provide a foundational understanding of Medicare - one letter at a time - covering the different parts of Medicare.  We will discuss the various costs and benefits associated with each letter and how to go about eligibility, enrollment and get you on the right path for a successful transition to Medicare.  This program is geared towards people who will be new to Medicare in the next year, but all are welcome.

Dare to join the La Crosse Public Library Archivists for a new kind of trolley tour called Dark La Crosse.  Focusing on downtown La Crosse’s macabre past, your narrator will guide you down a dark path through the red light district, prohibition, small town politics and vigilante justice in a young and restless river town bordered by the sleepless Mississippi River.  Before the trolley tour, we will have lunch at 11:15am at the Waterfront Restaurant and Tavern.  You will be able to choose your entrée from a select menu.  Lunch is included in the price.

The Grumpy Old Men swing band is a 14-piece big band.  The band consists of mostly retired musicians who still love to play their instruments and the music of the swing era.  The band’s repertoire includes the music of Glenn Miller, Les Brown, and others.

AARP created this program for all motorists over the age of 50 to help older drivers improve their skills and prevent traffic accidents.  Pay the day of the program, but pre-registration is required.

We Need to Talk: Safe Driving For A Lifetime

Accidents involving older drivers often call attention to older adults and driving safety.  Because of that, The Hartford Center of Mature Market Excellence and the MIT Age Lab, working with AARP, have put together the We Need to Talk Class.  The program was developed to help families initiate productive conversations with older adults about driver safety.  The one hour class covers such items as,: When is a good time to begin to talk about driving?  How do I prepare for serious conversations about limiting or stopping driving?  How can I encourage an older adult to plan for and use alternative transportation?  What if an older driver does not realize that his or her driving is a serious problem?  What if the driver has dementia?

Community Balance Screening: Are You At Risk of Falling?

General balance screenings will be performed by Mayo Clinic Health System Physical Therapy staff to help determine your risk of falling.  Tips to improve safety and fitness, home safety education and community based-exercise programs will also be shared.
