La Crosse Fire Department Responds to Residential Structure Fire on Cass Street

At approximately 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, the City of La Crosse Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1400 block of Cass Street.

Thanks to the quick actions of the homeowner, nearby witnesses, and responding firefighters, the fire was contained to the exterior of the residence, preventing it from spreading into the home's interior. 911 was called immediately, and the homeowner used a garden hose to help slow the fire's growth until firefighters arrived.

Fire crews were dispatched and arrived on scene in less than three minutes. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and brought the fire under control, limiting damage primarily to the home's covered rear porch. The occupants were able to remain in the residence, and no injuries were reported.

The fire is believed to have originated while an outdoor open-flame tool was being used near combustible materials.
