Judge-Elect Jessica Skemp will become the City of La Crosse’s newest Municipal Court Judge in an investiture ceremony scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 1 in the City of La Crosse Common Council Chambers. Skemp has served as an Assistant District Attorney in the La Crosse County District Attorney’s Office for 30 years. She succeeds Dennis Marcou who served as the City of La Crosse Municipal Court Judge for the past 28 years.

Tim Gruenke, La Crosse County District Attorney, will serve as the ceremony’s host, with Honorable Elliott M. Levine, La Crosse County Circuit Court Branch 2 Judge, administering the oath of office.

This ceremony marks Skemp’s formal installation to the office, following her April 7 election. “I am eager to begin my new service to the La Crosse community, transitioning from my legal role of advocate to magistrate,” she said. “My top priority is to make sure that everyone who appears before the court feels heard and respected. My view of the municipal judge’s role is to help develop solutions that make La Crosse safer and more inclusive for those who call this great city home.”
