Armed Suspect Flees Traffic Stop, Apprehended in Nearby Garage

On Tuesday September 29, 2026, at approximately 3:20 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of West Avenue and Jackson Street for a traffic violation. During the contact, the driver reached into the vehicle, retrieved a handgun, and fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood. 

Officers immediately established a perimeter and began a search of the area. At 4:11 p.m., the suspect was located in the 1200 Block of Johnson St in a garage. The loaded handgun was found hidden nearby.

Officers took Oryon S. Riles (12/19/2007) into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported. Mr. Riles was transported to the La Crosse County Jail and charged with Disorderly Conduct while Armed, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, Carry Concealed Weapon, Fail/Comply-Officer/Person into Custody.

Mr. Riles is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
