La Crosse Police Responded to a Suspicious Call outside Hospital

On July 4, 2026, at approximately 10:57 p.m., La Crosse Police responded to a “fake” or what is termed a SWATTING call for what the caller described as a suspicious person with a gun. The caller said the incident was allegedly happening outside of the emergency room at Emplify Health by Gundersen Hospital.  Again, this was a fake report also called a SWATTING call to police. Out of an abundance of caution, all necessary resources were deployed until police could verify the SWATTING incident. La Crosse Police, in partnership with Emplify Health by Gundersen, were able to determine that there was no threat. 

We truly appreciate the dedicated staff both from Emplify Health by Gundersen La Crosse and the La Crosse Police Department for their quick response, even on an already busy holiday weekend. Their dedication is essential. We continue to collaborate and partner together, training for incidents, ensuring our community remains safe and prepared.

These types of calls are serious and we will continue to investigate the source of this incident.
