La Crosse Water Utility Flushing Notice for 4/6/2026 to 5/1/2026

NOTICE

WATER SYSTEM FLUSHING

The La Crosse Water Utility will be starting its annual water system flushing program on Monday, April 6, 2026.  Please note that flushing will be conducted during the daytime hours, Monday through Friday, between 3:00AM and 3:00PM.  It usually takes three to four weeks to flush the entire water system.

Clean pipes are essential for a clean, healthy water supply, and that is why the La Crosse Water Utility is committed to maintaining our comprehensive flushing program.  However, flushing water mains can temporarily cause decreases in pressure, may cause short-term discoloration in the water affecting laundry operations, and may affect automatic flushing units and pressure sensitive equipment.  If you do experience discolored water, run a cold tap in a basement faucet or bathtub for a few minutes until the water clears.

During the flushing process, short-duration hydrant and crew noise, street flooding, and flashing vehicle safety lights can also be expected.

WATER SYSTEM FLUSHING SCHEDULE

SOUTH LA CROSSE

Starting at about 7:00AM on Monday, April 6, 2026, the La Crosse Water Utility will begin flushing watermains and fire hydrants in the general area from 7th & King St. north to the La Crosse River marsh and east to the bluffs.  Once that area is completed, flushing will continue in the general area from 6th & Cass St., working north and west to the river.  Following completion of these areas, flushing will continue to the south and east until all hydrants in south La Crosse have been flushed.

Barring interruptions or emergencies, flushing work on the South Side is expected to be completed around April 17, 2026.    Areas adjacent to these areas may also be affected by the flushing.

NORTH LA CROSSE

The La Crosse Water Utility estimates they will begin flushing watermains and fire hydrants on the North Side around 7:00AM on Monday morning, April 20, 2026. The flushing will first concentrate on larger transmission mains, followed by system flushing in residential areas.  Many of the transmission mains will be valved off and isolated to reduce potential impacts to adjacent residential areas.  Flushing will begin in the general area around the Airport, working south and east, including areas noted below.

Airport Industrial Park

Lauderdale Court

Moorings Drive

Nakomis & Cherokee Avenues

Clinton Street, Bainbridge Street & Sky Harbour Drive in the Town of Campbell

Interstate Industrial Park

Gillette Place

Oak Street

Following completion of these initial areas, flushing will continue to the south and east until all hydrants on the North Side of La Crosse have been flushed.

Barring interruptions or emergencies, flushing work on the North Side is expected to be completed around May 1, 2026.
