Appliances
Owners must make their own arrangements for the disposal of appliances.
Disposal Options:
Alter Trading accepts many small appliances free of charge, call for details, (608) 783–8203.
D & M Recycling accepts cell phones, printers, humidifiers, and most small electronic waste free of charge. Microwaves are accepted for a small fee. They also take small appliances, call for details, (608) 783–3030.
If appliances are reusable, connect with donation centers. Some places will pick up your reusable items. Here are a couple suggestions.
If appliances are not reusable, contact a hauler of your choosing to make arrangements for collection or drop-off.
Harter's Quick Clean-Up
(608) 782–2082
Hilltopper Refuse & Recycling
(608) 783–6727
If using the city’s hauler, Harter’s, for collection:
- Once fees are paid, collection is by route, bi–weekly, the same day recycling is collected.
- Appliance can be placed at your regular refuse collection point by 5 a.m. that morning.
If using a hauler other than Harter’s for collection:
- Make your payment and arrange a time and location for collection.
- Place appliance near your house or garage. Do NOT place items curbside or at your regular refuse collection point.
Major appliances are defined as:
- Anything with coolant or Freon
- Air conditioners
- Clothes washers and dryers
- Dehumidifiers
- Dishwashers
- Freezers
- Furnaces
- Ovens
- Refrigerators
- Stoves
- Water heaters
Microwaves are considered electronic waste. These along with small appliances can be taken to the La Crosse County Landfill or Harter's Quick Clean-Up for a fee.
