PUBLIC NOTICE: Hydrant Flushing Begins Monday, August 31

LA CROSSE. WI – In a public notice released today, the La Crosse Water Utility announced that it will soon begin its semi-annual water system flushing program. Flushing will commence on Monday, August 31 and continue for approximately eight weeks from 3 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“Because of the thoroughness of our updated flushing program, we cannot predict nor provide a schedule when flushing will occur in specific neighborhoods or areas,” said Water Superintendent Derek Greebon. “Instead, we encourage residents to utilize the live map and plan accordingly. While we understand that flushing may inconvenience some residents, this process is critical for maintaining a clean, healthy water supply.”

Flushing loosens and removes mineral deposits that can accumulate within pipelines. This maintenance improves water quality and supports long-term system reliability. During this process, residents may experience temporary service interruptions, including but not limited to, lower water pressure, short-term water discoloration, or impacts to pressure-sensitive equipment and automatic flushing units. Short-duration hydrant noise, crew activity, street flooding near work areas, and flashing vehicle safety lights may also be expected.
