Update: Suspect Arrested in Road Rage Shooting on Fifth Avenue

The La Crosse Police Department has arrested Marchun B. Holeyfield (04/22/1976) in connection with a road rage shooting that occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Officers initially responded to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of S. Fifth Ave. at approximately 5:42 p.m. Upon arrival, investigators determined a verbal altercation between two motorists escalated, resulting in Mr. Holeyfield firing a gun at the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported.
Responding officers and investigators gathered evidence and descriptions of Mr. Holeyfield’s vehicle from the victim’s statement, Genetec Cameras, (City of La Crosse Public Camera System) and witness videos. Contact was made with Mr. Holeyfield on Friday, August 21, 2026. He was arrested and transported to the La Crosse County Jail. Mr. Holeyfield is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
“The combination of reporting by the victim, diligent investigative work, and the Genetec camera system, assisted officers in locating the vehicle and identifying the suspect” said La Crosse Police Chief Shawn Kudron. "This arrest stresses the vital role modern technology can play in public safety, ensuring those who bring violence into our neighborhoods are quickly identified and held accountable.”
