Street Sweeping
Seasonal Roadway Sweeping
Seasonal roadway sweeping is done in accordance with the Stormwater Utility's needs. In the spring, sweepers start clearing winter sand and debris from the parking and driving lanes. Typically, there are 2-3 sweepers working Monday through Friday. The arterial streets are swept first, then crews move to the residential streets. The entire City of La Crosse is swept approximately once every two weeks.
In the fall, extra staff work to clean up leaves and to prevent storm inlets and storm sewers from plugging. If an excess of materials (such as leaves, yard waste, or debris) is placed in the street, the Stormwater Utility may contact the property owner to ensure compliance.
To assist sweeping crews and avoid damage to equipment, place garbage and recycling carts on the boulevard or driveway aprons, and not in the street.
During the winter months, sweepers are inoperable due to the freezing temperatures.
