Obtain Police or Crash Reports
Crash Reports
The La Crosse Police Department provides two online options to obtain crash reports:
- Lexis Nexis - https://buycrash.lexisnexisrisk.com
- This website allows someone directly involved in the accident (driver/passenger/property owner) to download a free copy of the accident report
- You will need one of the following to search for the report:
- Date of accident and last name of person involved
- Last name of person involved and street it occurred on
- Report number
- Support Line: 866-215-2771
- Wisconsin Department of Transportation Crash Reports - https://crashreports.wi.gov
- This is the Wisconsin DOT's website and only provides reportable crash reports (if you do not find your report on this website, you will have to use Lexis Nexis)
- You will need one of the following to search for the report:
- WI DOT Document Number
- Date and Wisconsin Driver License number
- Support Line: 608-266-8753
If you have problems or questions on obtaining an accident/crash report, call the La Crosse Police Department Records Division at 608-789-7227.
If an insurance company or attorney wishes to request the supplemental report for an accident, requests must be submitted through our online Open Records Request Portal. Requests should include the name of their insured or client.
Police Reports
Police reports can be obtained by submitting a request through our online Open Records Request Portal or in person at the La Crosse Police Department located at 400 La Crosse Street, La Crosse, WI 54601. The Open Records office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00AM - 4:00PM.
Please note: The La Crosse Police Department is experiencing a high volume of public record requests, particularly for video. Review of video requests requires significant time and resources. This has resulted in substantial delays and a back-log. To help improve response time, please be clear and provide a specific time frame and description for your request.
Public records requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Any request may require further review before it is fulfilled, especially when requested records are extensive or include legally protected information (such as juvenile information).
