Crowley Park is a 1.36 acre neighborhood park which also serves as the playground for the adjacent Emerson Elementary School. It was named for William Crowley (1886-1969) a builder and developer who purchased 41 acres in this area in 1930 and had nearly 140 homes built by 1940. He donated the land to the City.
In 2007, Principal Regina Siegel noticed the park needed updated play equipment, and after consulting with the children, the Physical Education instructor, and the PTO, she took several of her students to a La Crosse Park Board meeting to unveil their designs for a new play area. The Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department worked with the Grandview Emerson Neighborhood Association, the Emerson PTO, and the School District of La Crosse to refine the plans and incorporated The Natural Step, a Swedish Sustainability philosophy to ensure sustainability was built into the design. Crowley Park was redesigned in 2008 and updated in 2012. It features a gazebo, playground and walkway.
