The City of La Crosse Parks and Recreation Department understands that weather is unpredictable and can change at any given time. When the following weather conditions exist, La Crosse Parks and Recreation may (at their discretion) cancel or reschedule any indoor or outdoor program. Download the app for updates or call the hotline for updates.
Extreme Heat: The National Weather Service will issue an Excessive Heat Watch when conditions are favorable for excessive heat in the next 12-48 hours and an Excessive Heat Advisory when they are expected in the next 36 hours.
Lightning or Severe Thunderstorms: Programs may be cancelled in the event that the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for our area. Outdoor programs or sports will be delayed 30 minutes after the last thunder before resuming.
Tornados: Programs may be cancelled in the event that the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch/Warning. Staff and participants will find safe shelter indoors if programs are ongoing.
Ice and Snow Weather Conditions: Programs may be cancelled in the event that the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning. When schools are closed prior to the start of the day or if they dismiss classes early, all programs are cancelled.
Severe Cold Weather: Programs may be cancelled in the event that the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Warning Advisory.
Program Cancellations: For information on cancellations due to severe weather, please call our Youth Sports Hotline number at (608) 791-0706 (this will be updated as soon as there are any cancellations). Emails will be sent out to parents with any cancellations and schools will be notified by 2pm. To get updates on weather cancellations sent straight to your phone, please download the La Crosse Parks & Rec app and sign up for notifications. Please prepare to practice rain or shine. We monitor the radar and will look at any severe weather in question to cancel.
Parent or Guardian Discretion: In the event that the City of La Crosse Parks and Recreation Department does NOT cancel our programs and parents or guardians have concerns, it is at the parent/guardians’ discretion and their responsibility whether to send their child to the program.
