Civic Center Park

Civic Center Park was created in 1980 as part of the downtown Harborview Development. It is a connecting walkway between Downtown La Crosse and Riverside Park at 2nd and Main Streets. A plaque recognizes this area as ‘Nathan Myrick’s original Townsite’ for La Crosse. The park has a decorative water feature, greenspace, and sculptures.

The La Crosse Players sculpture designed and fabricated by Elmer Peterson was dedicated in 1981. It depicts indigenous people playing a game the early French explorers called lacrosse, which became the name of the City of La Crosse.

 The Le Pinau sculpture is a gift from La Crosse’s sister city in Epinal, France. Le Pinau is a boy pulling a thorn from his foot. The name Epinal comes from the French word epine, meaning thorn. Le Pinau was dedicated in 2006.
